Upon being inducted into the 2015/2016 JKH Management Trainee Program, we were instructed that as a new addition to the program, we would each have to get involved in an ongoing CSR initiative conducted by the John Keells Foundation (JKF). After considering the available options, I decided to get involved in the Mahavilachchiya Rural BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) Project. Set up in the year 2007 in collaboration with JKF and Foundation for Advancing Rural Opportunity (FARO) with the objective of providing sustainable employment opportunities to rural youth, the Mahavilachchiya BPO – named “OnTime” – was the first of three BPOs initiated by JKF, with the other two consequently being set up in Seenigama and Jaffna. In 2015, it was identified that OnTime required Administrative and HR process improvements and this was to be the focus of my project. To begin with, I accompanied a member from FARO to Mahavilachchiya to familiarize myself with operations there, to observe the processes in practice and also, to get to know the associates. We were able to have one-on-one chats with a majority of them, hearing their grievances and challenges and proving them with possible solutions. This first visit was a...

A human being’s prime responsibility should be to serve other human beings. We as humans have the ability to think and make decisions, we should always use that ability to help and serve mankind and our environment without expecting anything in return. Bearing the above in mind, I volunteered to be a Master Trainer for the HIV & AIDS Awareness programme conducted by John Keells Foundation. I first attended an awareness session in year 2009 conducted by Mr. Nalinda Liyanage, who is currently the Manager at Cinnamon Dhonveli, Maldives and he encouraged the participants to volunteer as Master Trainers in a session conducted by Dr. Indra Hettiaarachchi. A person shared a true life experience on HIV & AIDS and that’s when I decided that I will take this message to society and somehow make a change in people’s lives! Mr. Chaminda Samaranayake who is now at Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa, Maldives, nominated me as a Master Trainer which I accepted whole heartedly. Whilst I enjoy being a Master Trainer for HIV & AIDS, it is a very challenging role to play! I can recall a session in a village in Jaffna, held at a school opposite a...

I was very privileged to join Leisure Inbound in 2013 and currently I am an Executive in Vendor Management & Procurement Department. I am also an internal auditor and a member of New Product Development team for both Walkers Tours Limited and Whittall Boustead Travel Limited. I am very proud of my capability to manage a work life balance and also the active engagement in my studies despite the weight of many responsibilities. I believe that the friendly work environment and the support from my team at Walkers and my colleagues in the John Keells Group enable me to manage them very well. Apart from my daily work routine I enjoy participating in most of the company events, such as sports (especially badminton) tournaments, quiz competitions etc. All these events help me to meet new friends and they also provide me a sense of unity to work together towards achieving our Group’s values: Excellence, Innovation, Integrity, Trust and Caring. Another of my favourite activity at John Keells is participating in the Year End carols. This helps me bring out and improve my vocal talent and I am grateful to the organizers. These events also create beautiful...
