Looking back at my days as a Plasticcycle intern

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step”. And that’s what I did by joining as an intern at Plasticcycle. The internship was an opportunity that I received, as a result of taking part in the ‘ARROW’ workshop conducted by the John Keells Group. I have always dreamt about working in the corporate environment, but never expected my first ever internship to be at Sri Lanka’s largest listed conglomerate itself.
I would say joining Plasticcycle was one of the best decisions
that I have taken in life. Within a span of few weeks, the project
shaped me into a better person both professionally and personally. I
have always embraced the idea of a ‘Eco – Friendly
Environment’ and Plasticcycle,
which strives towards reducing plastic pollution in Sri Lanka has
given me the opportunity to work towards creating an impact on the
society. During my stint so far with Plasticcycle I learnt various
ways and means that could be put into practice to reduce the plastic
pollution.
When I first stepped in, just like everyone else I was quite
nervous. But it didn’t last very long because of the extremely
fun people around me. My work pals within Plasticcycle and the
Corporate Communications Division have always been encouraging and
motivating, making work much easier than I expected.
Being a part of a team with well experienced individuals has
given me an exposure on areas that I had no clue of (that is
literally everything!) and has helped me learn and understand the
various process and order of things. My experience so far at JKH has
helped me grow daily, and I believe that it will continue to do so
in the days to come as well!
